1990년대 언플러그 음악이 유행처럼 번진 적이 있다. 미국의 음악전문 케이블 채널이던 MTV에서 언플러그(Unplugged)라는 제목의 프로를 방송하면서 인기를 탔다.

언플러그란 플러그를 뽑았다는 말로 일렉트릭 악기 대신 어쿠스틱(acoustic) 음악을 말한다. 폴 메카트니, 에릭 클랩튼, 로드 스튜어트, 닐영, 머라이어 캐리, 커트 코베인(Nirvana) 등이 언플러그 음악으로 90년대 인기를 한 몸에 받았다. 기계 장치의 도움 없이 노래 실력과 기타 실력을 생생하게 드러낼 수 있다는 점이 팬들의 눈과 귀를 집중시켰다고 할까.
이 노래는 헤비 메탈과 펑크 록을 오갔던 밴드 익스트림(Extreme)의 보컬 게리 케론(Gary Cherone)의 실제 이야기를 담았다. 그런데 그는 퀸의 프레디 머큐리처럼 양성애자로 알려졌다. 따라서 이 노래의 주인공이 남자냐 여자냐를 두고 논란이 일기도 했다.
당시 국내에선 이 같은 논란이 알려지지 않았고, 90년대 한국인이 좋아하는 팝송으로 빠지지 않았다.
