BTS는 미국 대중 팝음악 싱글 순위인 ‘빌보드 HOT 100’에 지난 9월 5일 1위로 등장해 2주 연속 정상을 차지했다.
얼마나 대단한 업적이냐 하면 지금까지 빌보드 HOT 100 차트에 등장하자마자 1위를 차지한 곡은 마이클 잭슨의 "You Are Not Alone"와 레이디 가가의 "Born This Way" 등 불과 43곡뿐이다.
그 중에서 1위로 등장해 2주 연속 정상을 차지한 곡은 (43곡 중에서) 20곡에 불과하다. 베스트 오브 베스트랄까. BTS의 "다이너마이트"가 그 일을 해낸 것이다. BTS가 새롭게 쓰는 그들의 역사가 얼마나 지속될 지 흥미롭다.

참고로, 더 핫 100 차트는 미국에서 가장 확실한 종합 싱글차트로 여겨지고 있다. 1958년 정식 출범했지만 1991년부터 현대적인 에어플레이(modern airplay)와 판매 데이터(sale data)를 활용하기 시작해 보다 시간에 민감한 계산과 정확한 순위 매김이 가능해졌다고 한다.
빌보드에 따르면, 2005년부터 디지털 판매 데이터를, 2013년부터 유튜브 데이터를 종합해 순위에 반영하기 시작했다. 차트 방법론(The chart methodology )은 빠르게 진화하는 청취 경향을 반영하기 위해 적어도 일년에 한 번 업데이트 된다. 다시 말해, 인위적으로 순위를 조작할 수도, 원한다고 조작할 수 없다는 의미다.
