미국 LA에서 1981년 결성된 여성 록밴드 뱅글스의 'Manic Monday'는 모든 직장인의 비가다. 화려한 일요일이 끝나고 다시 직장으로 달려가야 한다. 먹고 살기 위해서다. 만원 버스에 지옥철에 매달리는 운명에 대한 푸념섞인 외침이다.
그러나 멜로디는 흥겨운 달콤씁쓸 로큰롤이다. 이 곡은 천재 뮤지션 프린스가 만들었다.
뱅글스는 1981년 LA에서 비키 피터슨(Vicki Peterson·리더 기타)와 데비 피터슨(Debbi Peterson·드럼) 자매가 신문에 멤버 모집 광고를 내면서 이를 보고 찾아온 수잔나 홉스(Susanna Hoffs·기타, 보컬)와 안네트(Annette Zilinskas·베이스)가 합세해 결성됐다. 얼마 후 안네트가 탈퇴, 마이클 스틸(Michael Steele)이 가세했다. 현재는 홉스와 피터슨 자매만이 정식 멤버로 활동 중이다.

'The Supersonic Bangs'라는 이름으로 결성되었지만 이후 'The Bangles'로 바뀌었다. 뱅글스는 액세서리 팔찌를 뜻한다.
